If the clocks on the bottom right of our laptops are correct 2014 is here, so we have compiled a list of 20 highly anticipated movies to look forward to for the coming year. Hollywood is carrying a lot of much needed momentum into this weekends Golden Globes, and these twenty films will be key in continuing that success as well as ensuring we continue to order large soda’s we never finish before the credits roll.

1) Transcendence

The latest Johnny Depp flick involves a dying scientist who transforms his sub-conscience into a computer where he possesses the power to do anything he wants. He takes his power to massive extremes and before anyone knows it, he’s unstoppable. If you’ve seen The Astronaut’s Wife, then you know that Depp knows exactly how to play a creepy sci-fi man.

2) Neighbors

This comedy stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne as a couple with a newborn baby who go on rambunctious escapades when a fraternity house moves in next door. When the couple call the cops on the frat house for being too loud, it eventually becomes a battle of parents vs. brothers. Zac Efron and Dave Franco play two of the frat brothers in what appears to be an extravagant riot.

3) Vampire Academy

This one goes out to all the teen vampire lovers. A half-human/half-vampire (a.k.a. a “dhampir”) attends a university to protect the good vampires from the evil ones. This film stars Zoey Deutch from Ringer and comes to theaters on Valentine’s Day. That’s fitting if you’re looking to take a break from Nicholas Sparks, and would like to see some action with female power- so it works for the guys AND the ladies.

4) Into the Woods [No Trailer Yet]

The classic musical comes to the big screen with a smash of fairy tales, including Cinderella, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood. Starring Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp and Anna Kendrick, this film comes to theaters on Christmas Day. This sounds ten times more fun than opening presents!

5) Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day [No Trailer Yet]

The children’s book we all grew up with is now a feature film. Alexander is the kid who wakes up with gum in his hair and experiences a million more rough events as the day goes on. This one stars Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner as Alexander’s parents.

6) Godzilla

He’s back! And so is Bryan Cranston! The giant radioactive reptile is wreaking havoc on mankind once again! This time, he’s looking more mysterious as the trailer (accompanied by some classic 2001: A Space Odyssey sound early on) only gives us a small hint on what kind of monster would be capable of destroying the world- until we hear the infamous roar that leaves us shuddering with anticipation.

7) Divergent

Based on the teen novel, this film stars Shailene Woodley as Beatrice Prior, the teenager with a unique mind that sets others out to kill her kind. We can only hope this will amount to the level of the book because if it does, this franchise has a slight chance of topping The Hunger Games series.

8) The Hobbit: There And Back Again [No Trailer Yet]

The legendary series continues when Bilbo and the dwarves try to reclaim the treasure. This one will have some more wild action, enigmatic fantasy and the return of all our favorite Hobbit characters.

9) Sin City: A Dame To Kill For [No Trailer Yet]

Nine years later, they finally made a sequel! This film will continue the intense dialogue and artistic visual effects. Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson and Mickey Rourke will revive their characters, and we’ll get to see some more famous faces, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Eva Green and Josh Brolin.

10) Annie [No Trailer Yet]

Based on the hit musical about the orphan with the big curly hair, this feature film stars Quvenzhane Wallis as the lead, which will be a unique turn since Wallis is not a ginger. The film also stars Cameron Diaz as the evil Miss Hannigan and will have all of the original musical numbers, including “Together At Last,” “Hard Knock Life” and of course “Tomorrow!”

11) Interstellar

This drama follows a story of space travel…it sounds like there will more to the story, but for now it stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain. So yeah, we’re already there. The teaser trailer is an ultimate teaser, and had us hooked nearly immediately.

12) 22 Jump Street

And yet another sequel to look forward to! This time, it’s the return of the hilarious police officers played by Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. And this time, they’re going undercover at a local college with more outrageous results.

13) Veronica Mars

Seven years after the series went off the air, we get to see where Veronica wound up; it turns out she’s a lawyer who needs to save her pal Logan from an accused murder. She’s going back into the world of private investigation, and keeps up with her witty charm even while punching other girls in the face.

14) X-Men: Days of Future Past

Another X-Men film that will have a unique story of Wolverine traveling to the past to prevent a future outcome. Sounds enticing…perhaps he can bring back Anna Paquin?

The series continues when Katniss becomes the symbol of a mass rebellion, leading her into another epic battle. What makes this film extra intense is where the ending will be leave us…

16) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Normally we wouldn’t care for another version of the classic Planet of the Apes…but Rise of the Planet of the Apes actually gives us hope for this film.

17) Maleficent

Angelina Jolie portrays the epic villain from Sleeping Beauty with this one taking place from the villain’s perspective. This sounds like one of the creepiest Disney flicks of all with those creepy horns and that maniacal cackle…and we’ll be there to watch the fire rise.

18) That Awkward Moment

This one will be something to look forward to as it relates to the typical life of this generation. It’s at the point where we ask ourselves, “Where is this relationship going?” in the eyes of a guy and a girl. Plus, it stars Zac Efron and his two pals who share a realistic bromance…so gentlemen, there actually is a Zac Efron movie that you can look forward to.

19) The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The sequel to the guy with the sticky hands is back with an eerie story of Electro, Rhino and some other mystery villain. This flick continues with more sparkling chemistry, intelligent dialogue and everything else that is indeed amazing.

20) Muppets Most Wanted

The gang is back when an evil frog named Constantine frames Kermit the Frog and tries to fool everyone into thinking that he’s the real Kermit. Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais and other celebs guest star in the movie that everyone wants to be a part of. It’s always great to see what our old Muppet gang is up to nowadays rather than only having to rely on the “Movin’ Right Along” days.
