This January on Lifetime Christina Ricci will be starring in a new movie titled Lizzie Borden Took an Axe. It is based on the true story of the alleged murders of Lizzie Borden viciously killing her mother and stepfather in 1892.

Despite being a made for TV film, there is a lot of excitement surrounding this release due to the inking of a big name actress like Ricci. Christina is perfect for the role for one specifically detailed reason:

She knows how to portray a dark character. The moment she became an adult Ricci broke away from the “No One Under 17 Allowed” genre and moved on to more mature and deeper roles. A great career move, but also one which made her fans wonder what happened to that adorable pre-teen from Casper.

Believe it or not, Ricci did have her demented roles even as a childThe Addams Family and Addams Family Values. So Ricci knew how to take on an eerie role pretty much from the start. And when it comes to Casper, well, it was about ghosts after all…

While Ricci was taking on mature roles in The Opposite of Sex, Prozac Nation and Miranda, she also did some dark roles that weren’t so much about being somber- they were roles that were related to her Wednesday Addams days in the sense that they were eerie, but fun. There was Sleepy Hollow, Bless the Child and Cursed. She didn’t let go of her dark side, and was modest enough to keep at it in more popular films.

Ricci never seizes to disappoint when it comes to the deranged, iconic roles. They are her trademark and she knows exactly how to please her audience. She was morbidly wonderful in The Addams Family, Sleepy Hollow and as Charlize Theron’s lover in Monster. Even inĀ Cursed, Ricci excelled in her role despite a very poor screenplay.

Now Ricci is going to portray a murderer on screen in Lizzie Borden. With all of her shockingly amazing previous roles portraying similar characters, it sounds like Ricci will definitely be in for the kill- and we’ll definitely be there when it happens.

“Lizzie Borden Took An Ax” premieres on January 25 at 8 p.m. EST on Lifetime.
